Crispy Protein Tofu Snack

I love these little golden nuggets! They are a great way to get some extra protein in as a low calorie snack, or they are also excellent tofu substitutes for my sushi bowl recipes for anyone who doesn’t want that strong soy sauce flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 tsp, ground, Black pepper (double this if you really like black pepper)
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 4 tbsps Nutritional yeast
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 1 pack extra firm tofu (15 oz)
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Poultry Seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic powder
  1. Preheat your oven to 425 or air fryer to 400, whichever you are using.
  2. In a small container with a lid, add your seasonings and cornstarch. Mix with a fork until it is a totally homogeneous mixture. 
  3. Drain the tofu water from your tofu, then cut the tofu into 16 even blocks. Tear those blocks in half with your hands, until you have 32 pieces of tofu with rough edges. 
  4. Throw the tofu into the seasoning mix, secure the lid and immediately give it all a good shake until the seasoning totally covers the tofu pieces and is sticking to them well.
  5. For the air fryer: 10-12 mins at 400 degrees. Air fryers tend to vary on strength and mine is very strong so I start with 10 mins and go from there, to desired crispiness. For the oven: bake on a lined sheet pan for 10-20 mins, until desired crispiness is achieved. It helps to flip halfway through baking  or give the pan a shake to evenly bake.
