Blue Mermaid Smoothie

This smoothie is inspired by a smoothie I had in Bar Harbor that was fabulous. The ingredients are a bit harder to acquire and pricey, but a little goes a long way. This has become a staple for me. The Blue Spirulina gives it the bright blue color.
I make all my smoothies using garden of life whey protein powder (120kcal, 0 fat, 6g carbs, 24g protein). I would not recommend substituting plant based protein because it changes the consistency and the flavor. If you do still want to use plant based, it will not be as thick and potentially not as sweet, so I would recommend adding more banana to counterbalance. I also use iced green tea for my morning smoothies, but you can change out with water or milk if desired.
Ingredients
- 1 pitted date
- 2 scoop, Grass Fed Whey, Vanilla
- A pinch of Pink Salt
- 2/3 cup Plain Nonfat Greek Yogurt
- 1/2 cup, Organic Blueberries, Frozen
- ¼ cup Unsalted Cashews
- 1 cup liquid (green tea, water, milk, etc)
- 1 frozen banana
- 2 tsps Maca powder
- 1 tsp Blue Spirulina
- Combine everything in your blender and blend until well mixed.
- Give everything a second go around in the blender, because sometimes the date takes a second go to fully blend.
- Enjoy!
Pro-Tip: if you have time, soak your date in hot water for 5 mins. Remove from the water before blending. This will ensure the date blends easier and does not leave behind large chunks.
